Dear Partners in Mission,

Last April, the North American Province of the Marist Missionary Sisters was asked to be responsible for our new mission in Tanzania, Africa. We were delighted with the request as the desire for mission in English-speaking Africa had come fromthis Province at the Chapter 6 years ago. Sisters had already volunteered and been sent to language school (the people speak Kiswali).

In this issue we share some of the pioneering efforts of our Sisters there, as well as, their hopes and fears and difficulties. It is a very poor country and HIV/AIDS has left many orphans and great sorrow in its wake. We have 4 seasoned missionary Sisters there with skills, training and experience in education, pastoral training and health. They comprise a multi-cultural community from Germany, New Zealand, Samoa and the Philippines. I urge you to let their stories touch you so that you can become partners in this new effort by your prayers and financial support. As Sr. Annemarie so beautifully wrote:

“We cannot get over the fact that benefactors are so generous to help us which leaves us much more energy for the ministry. We pray for them all daily.

Thank you for all the encouragement and financial help you are providing for us. It looks like a good challenge here, but that is why we are here. We love it even if it is not without pain.

Love,
Annemarie

One in Mary Mother of faith.
