Two representatives from our Vocation Team presented a vocation exhibit at the 5th annual Boston Catholic Women's Conference last Saturday, February 27th at the high school gym of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. The theme for the Conference was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)
Mrs. Noreen Thomas and Sr. Amora set up a table at 8 AM displaying colorful photos of Marist Missionary Sisters engaged in ministries throughout the world, give-away brochures of vocation prayers with invitations to join if you have the “call”, books of smsm missionary life experiences, and pens with smsm website address. Artifacts and local craft articles from different countries were on display.
Of the 47 tables, there were only 6 for religious congregations and 2 for secular institutes. The other presenters were from departments and media of the archdiocese and church ministry study programs. Many viewers of the SMSM table cheerfully identified themselves as Marist Laity associated with the Marist Fathers, Brothers or Sisters. They seemed to have come prepared to look for and imbibe whatever might enrich their spiritualities. Very few young adults had circulated in the hall by the 4 PM closing before Mass.
Four women, including one religious from Iraq, gave very fine testimonial presentations in the Cathedral. DVDs of the proceedings were available for purchase after the Conference.
