SMSM Spirituality

The person of Mary is very significant in Marist spirituality, as we follow Christ Jesus in the spirit of Mary, the first disciple.

In trying to live our religious missionary calling in today’s world, Marist Missionary Sisters look to Mary particularly in two scenes in the Scriptures.

We ponder Mary in the newborn church as she waited with the apostles for the coming of the Holy Spirit. We do this in our preparation for being sent on mission.

• We ponder Mary at Nazareth to view the world and our work in it from her perspective.

We look to Mary also for inspiration on our "way of being at the service of evangelization," a way of humble and discreet service, "without imposing, in the desire that Christ be revealed, while we ourselves remain hidden and as it were unknown in the world, so as not to impede God’s action in those we serve." for February & March 2010.

There at the foot of the Cross a people was born, a Marian people.  Seeing His mother and near her the disciple whom he loved, Jesus said to his mother: ‘Woman, this is your son.’  Then to the disciple he said: “This is your mother.”  From that moment, the disciple made a place for her in his home.
